As promised, I’ve now uploaded my photos from Tohoku. They’re a slightly surreal collection — these days I find the scenery of Japan familiar so seek out interest via. more obscure subject matter.

Mike is also continuing his posts describing his visit; this time, it’s the food!
N.B. Recently, I’ve taken to uploading my photos to both my .Mac Gallery and Flickr. This is due, in part, to Apple’s inability to produce a solution which will work successfully on any browser — if you’re having trouble viewing the .Mac Gallery, please try using Flickr.
As I speculated in my previous posting, Mike has now put up a posting describing his time — well the first few days at least — here in Tokyo…
After an estimated twenty or so hours of traveling, I get off the Keisei Skyliner and find Jason thankfully waiting by the exit of Ueno station. The journey from the Airport to Tokyo on the Skyliner has gently introduced me to Japan, with views of the city and the patter of Japanese voices.

Last week, during Mike’s visit to Japan, he and I took a trip up the northern half of Japan’s main island, Honshu (本州). The area, known as Tohoku (東北), tends to be one of the lesser visited areas in Japan but still offers some stunning scenery and a full compliment of shrines and temples.
Despite one missed bus and many hours spent in travel centers we managed to visit many places in such a short time. The whole journey took us through Sendai (仙台), Hiraizumi (平泉), Hachinohe (八戸), Hakodate (函館), Aomori (青森) and Hirosaki (弘前) (reputedly host to the most beautiful women in Japan).
While we were away, Mike kept a diary of our various exploits and, undoubtedly, he will condense these into a far more detailed posting at some point. I’ll post a link here as-and-when he does.
Sadly I failed to take many representative photos during our excursion. You can, however, be sure that a link will be posted to the few I manage to salvage.
Over the weekend, I visited the small but extremely beautiful Japanese island of Ishigaki with my work colleagues.
Excursions included scuba diving and, feeling a little more confident this year, I took my camera down and snapped a few photos and caught some footage:

When I originally put together the ‘Maps’ section of In7, I planned to record all the various trips I have taken. Further, I had contemplated a ‘Currrent’ section for tracking my current location using some GPS system of some sorts.
Having now moved away from this centralized mapping solution to small embeddable Javascript widgets, I thought it would be a shame not to still record a few of the recent trips for posterity:
Japan, 2006
Last summer, my first in Japan, I journeyed down to the South with my parents stopping at various places on the way: Hakone, Takayama, Miyajima, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Mt. Aso, Beppu, Himeji and Kyoto.
